There is therefore less traffic on the road, in the air and in the shops. Companies that invest a marketing and advertising budget in things like signage, billboards, or airplane magazines will find that they get less visibility than ever before. And organizations that rely on events and gatherings to drive new business and revenue can struggle to make up the difference. It is entirely possible that advertising expenditure on radio and television will increase. It is also likely that companies will conserve cash, including marketing budgets, to prepare for the impact. Some industries will fare worse than others during this crisis. For example, as this article points out, if a company fails to market a product, it can scale back company employee list marketing. Amazon has pretty much disabled its Google Ads campaigns and is instead focusing on pushing specific in-demand products. If you're in one of these hardest-hit industries, your search traffic may have dropped in recent days as well. Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg recently echoed the sentiment many people are feeling — that no one knows how much the coronavirus pandemic will impact marketing. Is there a silver lining for search marketers? Yes, but you have to look for it. We can assume that the more people work from home, the more flexible the “working day” becomes.
